This video introduces the Transactional Model of Communication. In a previous video, we looked at Shannon and Weavers' (1949) Information Transfer Model of communication. Their model works pretty well for explaining communication that happens through information technology but the Transactional Model of Communication better captures the face-to-face dynamics we all experience and feel in day-to-day interaction. Importantly, the model can provide a way of looking at our professional experiences that sheds new light on how we interact with others.
